BACKFIRING - Incorrect ignition timing, faulty ignition or leaking valves
 
CLATTER FROM ENGINE - Insufficient engine oil. 
Worn or badly adjusted valves.
 
WHINING OR CHATTERING FROM ENGINE - Incorrectly tensioned camshaft drive belt.
 
RATTLE WHEN ACCELERATING - Wrong grade of fuel;
engine overheating;,engine needs decoke, incorrect ignition timing;
ignition system fault.
 
KNOCKING FROM ENGINE WHICH INCREASES WITH ENGINE SPEED - Worn camshaft or cam followers.
 
SCREECH UNDER ACCELERATION - Slipping auxiliary drive belt/fan belt.
 
SCREECH WHEN STEERING - Power steering belt slipping.
 
MOAN FROM ENGINE WHEN STEERING - Power steering fluid level too low.
 
ROAR OR RASP UNDER ACCELERATION - Blown exhaust.
 
SQUEAL OR GROAN WHEN BRAKING - Worn or defective brake components.
 
HISS FROM ENGINE - Leak from coolant or air/vacuum hoses.
